Wire Wrapped Copper and Brass Labradorite Pendant

Wire Wrapped Copper and Brass Labradorite Pendant - ©2014 Tim Whetsel - TDWJewelry
Just finished up this simple piece today. Wire wrapping was done in copper with a little bit of brass. And of course I antiqued the metal and polished it up. Stone in the middle is labradorite.
Labradorite is a beautiful mineral that can first appear plain and dull. By letting the light hit it at a different angles Labradorite can produce a colorful play of light across cleavage planes and in sliced sections called labradorescence. The usually intense colors range from the typical blues and violets through greens, yellows and oranges.

At this angle the labradorite looks like it has shooting stars or meteors across the surface of the gemstone.

Beautiful blue glow of the labradorite gemstone.

Peridot is the official birthstone for the month of August and it is also the stone for the Zodiac sign of Libra and Astrological Signs of Leo, Virgo and Scorpio, and Sagittarius. This gem stone vibrates to the numbers 5, 6, and 7. Peridot fosters emotional balance, and helps us heal from past emotional wounds. It clears the path way to the heart and heals damaged egos. Peridot helps you move past the hurt, and understand your relationships. It adds intelligence to your romantic situations, giving you some common sense in affairs of the heart, and protecting you from unnecessary heartache. This Visionary stone brings understanding of destiny and purpose, releases negative vibrations, and promotes clarity and well being. Peridot is also a Money Stone and is said that you can wear it to draw money and opportunity your way.

Amethyst is identified with the crown chakra and vibrates to the number 3. Astrological sings are Pisces, Virgo, Aquarius, and Capricorn. Amethyst is a member of the crystal quartz or silica group, which are the most common minerals on our planet. Amethyst is the stone of the mind that helps bring calmness and clarity when there is anxiety and confusion. You can wear amethyst if you'd like to get in touch with your intuition, your feelings, and/or your values. This stone helps you learn of all things spiritual, mystic and psychic. Amethyst is said to aid in sobriety; alcohol, food, sex, drugs, and other addictions. Helps relieve stress, addictions, and offers protection because it repels more than it attracts.

Quartz crystal is one of earth's most common minerals and the most powerful, versatile multi-purpose healing stone. It is said that quartz crystals were used in Atlantis and Lemuria for rejuvenation. Edgar Cayce spoke about an energy stone in Atlantis. Mr. Cayce's description of the energy stone fits quartz crystal. The Bible mentions many gemstones, including quartz. There is much disagreement on the stones used in the Breastplate of Aaron (Ex. 28). In some translations of the Bible the sixth stone, which is the third stone of the second row is the diamond. Some scholars believe the sixth stone is rock crystal or quartz crystal. The diamond was not used until about 800 B.C.

Copper & Brass Wire Wrapped Shark Tooth Pendant

Handmade Copper and Brass Wire Wrapped Shark Tooth Pendant ©2014 Tim Whetsel
I created this wire wrap with copper and a small amount of brass. The cabochon in the middle contains a fossilized shark tooth and sand from the beach. The wire wrap was oxidized and polished to a shiny luster. This picture was taken on a himalayan pink salt crystal for the background.

Copper Wire Wrapped Corkscrew Link

Copper Wire Wrapped Corkscrew Link - Image ©2014 Tim Whetsel
I made this copper wire wrapped corkscrew link by following a tutorial by Nicole Hanna. On the first Tuesday of every month, Nicole Hanna hosts an event called "Free Tutorial Treasure Hunt Tuesday". You have seven days to search the pages of www.nicolehannajewelry.com for a free wire wrapping tutorial. I got lucky and found it in about 20 minutes. I gets tricky because the tutorial moves to another location on the website every six hours. The above image is my craftsmanship of the Corkscrew Link designed by Nicole Hanna. If you'd like to purchase this tutorial you may do so on her website by clicking here. This link can be used to make a bracelet, earring, part of a necklace chain, a broach, or incorporated into another jewelry design. I plan to make a viking knit bracelet out of copper and attach it to this link.

These simple earrings are wrapped with Wrapit copper wire. Purple Zebra Wire is coiled in between the top two pink beads. Earwire is handmade from nickel silver 20 gauge Wrapit wire. Pink beads are just plastic. Man, I can't wait to purchase some Swarovski beads.

Wire Wrapped Heart Shaped Cabochon

Heart Shaped Cabochon Wrapped in Copper Wire by Tim Whetsel ©2014 Tim Whetsel
We got these two free white heart shaped cabochons from this cool store called Pirates Dream. They have tons of really neat stuff. Lots of shells and beach stuff. Also my favorite, tons of crystals and minerals at very decent price. I will be returning there for jewelry supplies. My two favorite girls each got one and asked me to make pendants for them. I made this one in a couple hours and started the next one which I will post when I'm done. I wrapped this one in "Wrapit" copper wire and used a small amount of purple Zebra wire at the bottom. Added lots of curls and swirls to this one.

Wire Wrapped Shark Tooth Cabochon

Shark tooth cabochon by Tim Whetsel ©2014 Tim Whetsel
This handmade cabochon contains a fossilized shark tooth and beach sand.

Shark Tooth Cabochon Wrapped in Copper ©2014 Tim Whetsel
Shark tooth cabochon wrapped in copper wire with quartz crystal chip and glass amber beads. A slight patina was added using liver of sulfur. I had planned for a more darker patina, but I used "Wrapit" copper wire from firemountaingems.com that seems to have some kinda of anti-patina coating. I was able to use sand paper to remove the coating in some areas, but the effect I was aiming for was not achieved.
